When I'm using a memory card in the printer with a computer, are there any steps I should take before I disconnect or turn off the printer to avoid damage to the card?

EXPLANATION:

When you finish copying files to or from a memory card in the printer, you must carefully follow the steps in these sections before you turn off the printer or disconnect it from your computer.

For Macintosh

  1. Drag and drop the printer icon and memory cards (if inserted) to the Trash can on the computer screen.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer, then disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
  3. Turn off the computer if required.

Caution Icon Caution:

Always drag the printer icon and removable disk icon on your desktop into the Trash to eject it before you turn off the printer or disconnect the USB cable. Otherwise, you may lose data.



For Windows

Follow the instruction for your Windows version:


Windows 7, 8 and 8.1:



  1. Double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon from the taskbar on the computer screen.
  2. Select the PhotoViewer (this may be called USB Mass Storage Device) and click Stop.
  3. Select it again and click OK. Click Close.
  4. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer, then disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
  5. Turn off the computer if required.


Windows Vista:



  1. Double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon from the taskbar on the computer screen.
  2. Select the PhotoViewer (this may be called USB Mass Storage Device) and click Stop.
  3. Select it again and click OK. Click Close.
  4. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer, then disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
  5. Turn off the computer if required.


Windows XP:



  1. Double-click the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon from the taskbar on the computer screen.
  2. Select the PhotoViewer (this may be called USB Mass Storage Device) and click Stop.
  3. Select it again and click OK. Click Close.
  4. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer, then disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
  5. Turn off the computer if required.


Windows 2000:



  1. Make sure that both the Access lamp and the Illumination lamp (blue) are not flashing.
  2. Turn off the computer.
  3. Turn off the printer, then disconnect the USB cable from the computer and disconnect the USB cable from the printer.

    Notes Icon Note:

    If you turn off this product or disconnect the USB cable before turning off your computer, the "Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device" window may appear.


Windows 98/Me:



  1. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  2. The My Computer window appears. Right-click the Removable Disk icon, and then click Eject.
  3. Turn off the computer.
  4. Turn off the printer, then disconnect the USB cable from the computer and disconnect the USB cable from the printer.

    Notes Icon Note:

    On Windows 98, when removing the USB cable from the computer after storing data to the computer without turning the computer off, the blue screen is displayed. To avoid this, turn the computer off before removing the cable.
