How to fully uninstall a USB All-In-One from Windows 7


  • I have followed the available troubleshooting advice for Windows 7 but there is still no response from the printer when I send a print job.
  • I want to update to the latest driver but first need to uninstall the current driver.
  • I need to fully remove the printer driver and Epson Scan for my All-In-One.


This article explains how to remove the Epson drivers for your All-In-One.

You may require this procedure if you simply wish to remove the Epson software from your system, or you wish to remove the software to try to resolve a problem you are experiencing with the Epson drivers or software.

If you have been experiencing difficulties printing from or scanning to your computer, there may be a communication issue. Ensure that you have followed the troubleshooting article that addresses the issue you are experiencing. If the issue remains, the printer and scanner driver may need to be fully uninstalled.


This procedure is more in-depth than the standard method of uninstalling and will remove all currently installed Epson printers and scanners.

Important: This article assumes that your All-In-One is operational (e.g. displaying no errors) and addresses the full uninstall process only.


Follow the steps below to fully uninstall the printer and scanner drivers from Windows 7.

  1. Start with the All-In-One powered on and connected to the computer.

  2. Open the Printers folder. Check for and cancel any queued documents for any installed Epson printer.

    1. Click  Start > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click on the Epson printer icon, then left click on See What's Printing to open the print queue.
    3. If documents are waiting in the print queue, click Printer then Cancel All Documents.
    4. Click Yes when prompted "Are you sure you want to cancel all documents for 'Epson xxxx'?".


      If you have more than one icon for your Epson printer model(s), repeat this procedure for any duplicate drivers. However, be aware that Windows 7 has a new feature called port stacking. This means that if one or more printer drivers are using the same virtual printer port, Windows will stack the printers as a list when you right-click the printer icon, but only one printer icon will be displayed.

    5. If you have had to cancel documents, restart the computer before moving on to the next step. To restart the computer, click  Start, click the  arrow then Restart.

  3. Power off the All-In-One and disconnect the USB cable.

  4. Uninstall EPSON Printer Software and EPSON Scan from Programs and Features under Control Panel. If EPSON Scan is not listed, look for and remove EPSON TWAIN.

    1. Click on the Start menu, then Control Panel.

    2. Left-click on Uninstall a program. (If Uninstall a program is not listed, look for and click on Programs and Features.)

    3. Locate and double-click on EPSON Printer Software. There will be no file size in the Size column, this is normal.

    4. Click Continue if you receive a Windows permission request to "Uninstall or change an application".

    5. The EPSON Printer Utility window will appear.

    6. Click on the Epson printer icon that corresponds to the All-In-One you wish to uninstall and click OK.

    7. Answer Yes to all prompts to complete the uninstall process.

    8. Click OK to the "Uninstall complete" notification.

    9. Repeat this procedure until all Epson printer drivers are uninstalled.

    10. Once complete, remove EPSON Scan.

    11. Double-click on EPSON Scan in the list. If you are asked to restart the computer at any point, choose No.

    12. Once complete, you may wish to remove any EPSON software that was bundled with your printer, e.g. EPSON File Manager or EPSON Easy Photo Print.

    13. Once the uninstall process has finished, close the Programs and Features window.

  5. Browse to the inf folder from the Start Search menu, Windows Explorer, or Computer:

    1. Open Windows Explorer or Computer.
    2. Navigate to the drive that Windows is installed on (usually C:).
    3. Open the windows folder.
    4. Open the inf folder.


      If you cannot locate the inf folder, click on the Start and type 'Run' into the Start Search box. (Or hold the Windows logo key + R.). Type inf into the blank Open: box then press Enter.

  6. You will now need to search for the Epson 'oem' files in the Windows inf folder.

    1. Locate the files labelled OEMxx.inf (where xx is a number from 0, 1, 2, etc. upwards). The oem files you locate may not display the .inf extension.

    2. There are normally two oem files that share the same number. For example with oem0 there would normally be oem0 and oem0.PNF.

      oem.inf file:    oem.PNF file: 

    3. Start with the first oem.inf file (usually oem0.inf).


      You cannot open a .PNF file.

    4. Double-click on the file and it will open in the Notepad program.

    5. Check for "SEIKO EPSON" or "EPSON" within the first few lines of text.

    6. If it does not say "SEIKO EPSON" or "EPSON" within the first few lines, close the file and check the next oem file. To close a file, click on the Close icon found in the top right of the program window.

      Caution Icon Caution:

      You must not edit any OEM files.

    7. If "SEIKO EPSON" is listed within the first few lines and the name of your All-In-One is listed further down, close and delete the file. To delete it, right-click on the file icon then left-click on Delete from the menu.

      You must not delete any OEMxx files that do not contain "SEIKO EPSON".

    8. Click Yes to the Confirm Delete prompt, to send the file to the Recycle Bin. Then delete its corresponding oem.pnf file.

      In the example below, oem40.inf is a SEIKO EPSON file. This should be deleted along with oem40.PNF.

    9. Continue to check each OEMxx.inf file in turn, following the procedure above.
    10. Once all OEMxx.inf files have been checked, close the inf folder.

  7. Stop the Print Spooler service in Local Services.

    1. Click on Start and type Run in the Start Search box. (Or hold the Windows logo key + R.). A small window will appear.
    2. Click in the Open: field and type services.msc.
    3. Click OK. Click Continue if the Windows User Account Control asks your permission to continue.
    4. This will open the Local Services window.
    5. Scroll down the list of services until you find the Print Spooler.
    6. Click on Print Spooler to highlight it.
    7. At the top-left of the window, click on Stop the service. Windows will attempt to stop the service.
    8. Once the Print Spooler service has stopped, close the window.

  8. Remove the Epson files from the w32x86 (Windows 7 32-bit) and the x64 folder (Windows 7 64-bit).

    1. Open Windows Explorer or Computer.
    2. Open the windows folder.
    3. From here, browse to: C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers.
    4. In the drivers folder you should find the folders Color and w32x86. (Windows 64-bit users: you may also find an x64 folder.)
    5. Right-click on the w32x86 folder and left-click Delete. Do the same again if you have a x64 folder, as both contain files relating to your Epson product.


    Deleting the w32x86 folder will remove all installed printer drivers so these will need to be reinstalled.

    If you have non-Epson printers installed and do not wish to reinstall them, do the following:

    1. Open the w32x86 or x64 folders to display the contents.
    2. Delete any Epson or EP files from the w32x86, x64 and 3 folders.
    3. Confirm that you want to remove the files to the Recycle Bin.

  9. Once deleted, restart the computer. This should also restart the Print Spooler.

  10. Once restarted, check that the Print Spooler service is running.

    1. Repeat Steps 7.a - 7.e to open the Local Services console.
    2. With Print Spooler highlighted, click on Start the service.
    3. If Start is not listed but Restart is, click on Restart the service.
    4. Windows will attempt to start the service.
    5. Once the Print Spooler status is "Started", close the window.

  11. Remove the Epson folder from the (C:) drive. Open Computer. Open Local Disk (C:) - or the hard drive that Windows is installed on. Locate and delete the EPSON folder. Right-click on the folder icon and left-click on Delete.

  12. Delete the PrinterDriverTemp and the Epson printer name folders from C:\Program Files\EPSON.

    1. Locate and open the Program Files folder.
    2. Locate and open the EPSON folder.
    3. Locate the folder named after your Epson All-In-One.
    4. Right-click on the folder icon and left-click on Delete.

    5. If you have more than one Epson printer installed, delete all folders relating to the individual Epson printer models.
    6. In C:\Program Files\EPSON, locate the PrinterDriverTemp folder.
    7. Right-click on the PrinterDriverTemp folder, then left-click on Delete.

  13. Confirm that you want to delete the file then close the window.

  14. Delete the escndv folder from twain_32 in the Windows folder.

    1. Open Local Disc (C:) again and open the Windows folder.
    2. Double-click on the yellow twain_32 folder.
    3. If there is a folder called escndv, right-click on the escndv folder and left-click on Delete.
    4. Click Yes to the Confirm File Delete prompt.

      • If you have the CX3200/CX5200/CX5400 and have installed the software from the original CD-ROM, escndv will not be listed. Instead, look for a folder called EPFB* (where * represents a number e.g. 4, or 5) and delete the EPFB* folder.
    5. Close the window. Do not delete any other files or folders.

  15. Delete scanner-specific temporary files.

    1. Open Computer then open your hard disk drive (usually C:).
    2. Next, click on the Organise option from across the top of the window and select Folder and Search Options.

    3. A window will appear, click on the View tab.
    4. Underneath Hidden files and folders ensure that the option for Show hidden files and folders is selected then click Apply and OK.

    5. Open the Users folder, followed by the folder with your user name on it e.g. 'PC User'.
    6. In this folder, open the AppData folder then the EPSON folder. If not listed here open the Temp folder within the AppData folder, followed by the EPSON folder.
    7. Within the EPSON folder, delete the ESCNDV folder.
      • If you have the CX3200/CX5200/CX5400 and have installed the software from the original CD-ROM, an ESCNDV folder will not be listed - look for and delete the EPFB* (where * represents a number e.g. EPFB5).

    8. Return to Users and open the folder that has your username on it.
    9. Open the Local folder.
    10. Open the Temp folder and look for the following files:


      'xxx' represents a number such as Twain001.MTX, Twain002.MTX, Twunk002.MTX etc.

      If these files already exist they are just read. Some cleaning programs operate by overwriting the contents of these files but not deleting the filename. Then the Source Manager is unable to read the data and does not create new copies of the files as they already exist. If this happens the Source Manager is unable to open, thus there is no TWAIN support available for any application.

    11. Delete the Twain.log, Twainxxx.MTX, Twunkxxx.MTX files from the folder. Close all windows back to the Desktop and restart the computer. To restart the computer, click  Start, click the arrow then Restart.

  16. Once the computer has restarted, right-click on the Recycle Bin icon (located on the Desktop). A menu will appear: left-click on Empty, or Empty Recycle Bin. Click Yes to the prompt to delete the items in the Recycle Bin.

  17. Make sure that your All-In-One is still powered off and disconnected from the computer.

  18. The Epson printer and scanner drivers for your All-In-One are now uninstalled.

    If you need to reinstall the drivers for your All-In-One, do so using either the original CD-ROM (if the product was released after Octorber 2009) or the latest and recommended drivers from the Epson Support website.
